The Back-up Plan is a comedy that explores dating, love, marriage and family “in reverse.”
After years of dating, Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) has decided waiting for the right one is taking too long. Determined to become a mother, she commits to a plan, makes an appointment and decides to go it alone. That same day, Zoe meets Stan (Alex O’Loughlin) – a man with real possibilities.
Trying to nurture a budding relationship and hide the early signs of pregnancy becomes a comedy of errors for Zoe and creates confusing signals for Stan. When Zoe nervously reveals the reason for her unpredictable behavior, Stan commits fully and says he’s in. Never before has love seen a courtship where a wild night of sex involves three in a bed – Stan, Zoe and the ever-present massive pregnancy pillow. Or, where “date night” consists of being the “focal point” at a near-stranger’s water birth which does for kiddie pools what “Jaws” did for swimming in the ocean. The real pregnancy test comes when both of them realize they really don’t know each other outside of hormonal chaos and birth preparations. With the nine month clock ticking, both begin to experience cold feet. Anyone can fall in love, get married and have a baby but doing it backwards in hyper-drive could be proof positive that they were made for each other.
Jennifer Lopez (Monster-In-Law, Shall We Dance) and Alex O’Loughlin (August Rush, “Three Rivers”) star in The Back-up Plan for CBS Films, the film division within CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS). The project, which commenced principal photography in Los Angeles on May 11, will debut in theaters spring of 2010.
Alan Poul (“Swingtown” and “Six Feet Under”) is directing. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch (The Pursuit of Happyness, Knowing) are producing through their Escape Artists banner. Kate Angelo (“Will & Grace,” “What About Brian”) wrote the screenplay.

Anthony Anderson about working with Jennifer - October 31 2009
Anthony Anderson who has a role in "The Back-up plan" was interviewed by popeater here's the part where they asked him about Jen.
On working with Jennifer Lopez in 'The Back-Up Plan': "It was great. I was fortunate to have some time off to do film this past summer. She and Marc Anthony are wonderful people. Jennifer Lopez has a glow about her that I've never seen on anyone. My first day at work, I walked into her trailer, and she literally glowed. Those two have a great balance between being great parents of twins and working. They are great people to work with. I really enjoyed my experience on the film."
Amy Baer about CBS Films & the Back-up Plan - October 22 2009
Amy Baer the president of CBS Films was interviewed by Filmjournal.com about the new division and their upcoming movies, here are some excerpt of the article.
CBS Films. The new studio CBS Films plans to release four to six films a year with production budgets of up to $50 million. The new unit is being headed up by president and chief executive officer Amy Baer, who joined the company in October 2007 after nine years at Columbia Pictures as executive VP of production. At Columbia, Baer’s string of successes included The Mask of Zorro, Adaptation and S.W.A.T.
In an exclusive interview with FJI, Baer discussed the goals of this new mini-major. “We’re making movies that are star-driven, commercial and intended for a broader segment of the audience. We aren’t necessarily going to make a lot of four-quadrant films, although some movies become four-quadrant films by virtue of their quality, but we are developing a few projects in which we see franchise potential.
Next up, in spring, is The Back-up Plan, starring Jennifer Lopez opposite rising star Alex O’Loughlin (of the new CBS medical drama “Three Rivers”). The romantic comedy returns Baer to a genre in which she’s seen great success in the past—she worked on My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Wedding Planner (with Lopez), and Something’s Gotta Give while at Sony. “The Back-up Plan is a really funny and romantic story, but it also has a very relatable dilemma for women today—which is, when you’re accomplished and successful but you haven’t met the right guy and you still want a family, what do you do? There’s also a bit of wish fulfillment—right when she decides that she’s going to go it alone and be artificially inseminated, she meets the man of her dreams. The script is laugh-out-loud funny.”
With the new released date in America, The Back-up plan was also moved from February 19 to March 19 in the Uk, Indian will get the movie also March 19. i'll let you know if i found more release dates

Jennifer Lopez & Alex O'Loughlin Have a 'Back-Up Plan'
ET did a short interview with Alex O'loughlin at the TCA party for his new TV show "Three Rivers" he talked about the movie and like always had some kind words for Jennifer.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex O'Loughlin star in a romantic comedy about a woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams on the very same day!
"It is a comedy that has romantic elements, it has a lot of physical comedy and it has a lot of dramatic moments, too," O'Loughlin tells ET at a party for his new CBS series, "Three Rivers."
"[Director] Alan Poul met with me and offered me the film," he continues. "I met Jennifer and it all seemed to fit. I went straight from the pilot of 'Three Rivers' to the movie, and I just finished the movie and started filming the show. It has been a non-stop ride the last few months. I think it is going to be a good film."
"Jennifer is amazing. I am very lucky," O'Loughlin says of his co-star.
"Three Rivers" will premiere Sunday, October 4 at 9 p.m. on CBS. 'The Back-Up Plan' will premiere in theaters in January 2010.
Is Jennifer a good kisser? Alex Oloughlin answer (kind of) - 04 Aug 2009
An excerpt from an new interview Alex O'loughlin gave to TV Guide (August 3) - I've also added a new promo picture of "The Back-up Plan".
On a lighter note, what was it like making the movie The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez this summer?
Jennifer is the consummate professional and always prepared. She brings a great light and joyous energy to set. She’s never late. All the bull you hear…She was just a pro and rad to work with. She’s funny and we became pals, you know? It was super.
Did you ever have a moment where you thought, “Wow, I’m actually getting paid to make out with J. Lo?”
Yeah. It was more like I was thinking, “Oh my god, I’m kissing Jennifer Lopez!”
Was she a good kisser?
Yeah. [Laughs] No comment.
You don’t want Marc Anthony knocking on your door?
No comment! But it was terrific and I think the film is going to be good. We’ll see. I hope I’m okay in it, but I had a great time.
In retrospect, it was inevitable that, along with the bystanders and the blinding set lights and the cameras on cranes and the movie star in the window, there would also be a drunk guy. Not a drunk guy who had heard that Jennifer Lopez was in town and thought it would be neat to bum-rush the Gray’s Papaya on Sixth Avenue and 8th Street where she was filming a nighttime scene for her new romantic comedy, The Back-Up Plan. No, this would be a drunk guy who really, really wanted a hot dog. “Drunk guys, crazy guys, that’s everyday stuff,” says P.A. Joshua Williams. “This is New York.” And Back-Up Plan producer Todd Black wouldn’t shoot anywhere else. “There’s romance here. And you can’t fake these exteriors.” Or the humidity on this July night. Or the army of scene-disrupting paparazzi. As one explains, the frenzy is high because Lopez “doesn’t come here often.” Plus, she smiles for photos, unlike “sourpuss” Jennifer Aniston, also shooting in New York. (His best shot? Lopez spitting out chewed-up hot dog between takes.) Bronx girl Lopez has a home-field advantage with bystanders as well. Desmond Hill says his brother used to dance with her. “We [all] grew up in Castle Hill in the Bronx.” His wife, Reina, yells out, “Jennifer, the Bronx loves you!” Later, a woman walks by as Lopez, cameras rolling, throws back her head in laughter. “She’s overdoing it” is the brief critique.
Alex O'loughlin is back in LA to work on his new TV show and he took the time to post a blog to his fans where he talk about his experience working on "The Back-up Plan".

Its been a while
Current mood: adored
Hi everybody.
Well it certainly has been a minute since I last wrote you all, but I am glad to say that it's because I literally have not stopped working since we last spoke. I finished The Backup Plan a few days ago and flew straight back to LA to start production on Three Rivers, which is where I am now.
The film experence was wonderful! We were very lucky to have the team of producers & the director that we had and I would work with them all again tomorrow! It was nothing but positive.
Our director and leader, Alan Poul was as good as you can get. Very intelligent, funny, sensative to everyone's needs and a true visionary. I think we might just have a decent little film on our hands! ;)
Many of you have sent me messages full of questions about Jennifer and how I found working with her, and I appreciate your enthusiasm.
Jennifer is a very private person and I respect that, so what I will tell you is that she is all the good things you could possibly imagine her to be. Funny, smart, generous, always prepared, very professional, always punctual... and of course, beautiful.
Thank you all so much for the constant support. It can be difficult to reach you all personally and individually, but none of your love and hard work ever goes unnoticed or unappreciated. It is something in my life that helps me find the energy I don't always think I have, to get through another long work day and stay inspired. Without you all it would be kind of pointless so, again, thank you.
The Back-up Plan's cast and crew moved to NY after 2 months filming in LA. They worked in NY for outside shoot between July 16 and July 25 and we got more pictures and videos during that time than in the 2 first months of filming. You'll find all the pictures in the Gallery and i've listed the videos available.
The Facebook page of the movie has quotes from all the actors about their role and their experience working on the movie ! here's Jennifer's quote :
Jennifer Lopez (Zoe)
I love being back at work, I’ve always loved working, it’s a big part of who I am. I’ve been having a lot of fun shooting The Back-UP Plan. It’s a really, really happy, positive, fun comedy set. For me, when I read the script, having just gone through my own experience of having babies for the first time, it definitely rang true…all the jokes about what it is to be pregnant…being tired and kind of hormonal, and all the weird things that happen to you. What makes a comedy funny is that there is some reality to it…when audiences laugh and say ’oh my god’ and ‘that’s so true.’ At the same time, you want to try and bring something new to it, something fresh. I think a lot of people will really relate to my character, Zoe
Danneel Harris "i had to call J.lo Fat" - 13 July 2009
Danneel Harris who plays Olivia in "The Back-up plan" gave an interview to onetreehillpodcast where she talked about her projects, you can listen to her interview Here, i wrote the part where she talk about the movie and Jennifer. Thanks to Cora for the heads-up.
Talking about her project at around 17mins in she mention ‘The back-up plan’
Danneel: “I did a movie that I’m still working on, it’s not wrapped yet. It’s called "The back-up plan", it’s a romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez, also Christian Olsen who was in Fired-up with me, and Alex O’loughlin, vampire fans would know him from Moonlight, that was kind of a short lived show on CBS but really good. I play the nemesis to Jlo that was interesting the first day I met her I had to call her fat”. What?
Danneel: “Because I play that really sweet hippy girl that used to date Alex O’loughlin and now he’s seeing Jennifer Lopez’s character, I’m really sweet in front of him but when I’m not in front of him I’m kind of evil, girl things. So it was like Ms Lopez superstar – I am just going to call you fat. But I got a lot of scenes with her and that was really cool.
That’s awesome, that’s great for you. Danneell: “Yeah it should be a pretty big movie and it’s super cute” Everybody loves a romantic-comedy. Danneel: “And I’d finally be in something my dad can watch”.
Jennifer Elise Cox about her experience on TBUP set - 08 July 2009
An Alex O'loughlin fan send a question to Matt Webb Mitovich about his new show and he talked about an email he received from Jennifer Elise Cox who has a role in The Back-up plan.
I'm wondering when the first episode of Three Rivers will air. I know Alex O'Loughlin is busy filmingThe Back-Up Planwith Jennifer Lopez... — Amy MATT: I'm going to stop you right there to say that Three Rivers premieres Sunday, Oct. 4. I will now segue into an email I just received from Jennifer Elise Cox (formerly of 10 Items Or Less), who also has a role in The Back-Up Plan. "I had a really funny scene with Alex," my very Brady buddy shared. "He's so much fun!" Cox also said that J.Lo is "one of the nicest and most talented actresses I've ever worked with." Awww.
Jennifer Lopez returns with a back-up plan - 02 July 2009
LOS ANGELES — Jennifer Lopez seems at home as she wanders the hallowed halls of Radford Studios, originally built in this San Fernando Valley enclave as the cinema home for silent film greats Charlie Chaplin and The Keystone Cops.
More recently, the sound stage complex housed the long running TV sitcoms Seinfeld and That '70s Show, among many others. And now it's home to JLo who is determined to revive her film career with the romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan, which she's currently filming here.
Linda Lavin who Plays Nana, Jennifer's grand-mother in Tha Back-up plan talked about her role in the movie to John Staton from starnewsonline.com and she gives an intersting information about the closing credit of the movie.
Are Linda Lavin and Jennifer Lopez related?
They are in “The Back-Up Plan,” a romantic comedy from CBS Films that’s scheduled for release in 2010.
Lavin, a Wilmington resident and actress best known for playing the title role in TV sitcom “Alice” and for Tony-winning performances on Broadway, has been in Los Angeles this month shooting scenes for the film. She’ll return to L.A. later in June to shoot several more. “I play (Lopez’s) nana,” Lavin said Thursday, reached while boarding a plane back to Wilmington, where she’s directing David Mamet’s play “Speed-the-Plow” for her and husband Steve Bakunas’ Red Barn Studio.
The plot of “The Back-Up Plan” has J-Lo’s character becoming artificially inseminated, immediately after which she meets the man of her dreams, played by Alex O’Loughlin of TV’s “Three Rivers.” “He’s just a hunk and a darling,” Lavin said.
Commitment issues are at the heart of the script, and the young couple’s situation is paired with a decades-long, marriage-less romance between’s Lavin’s character and her boyfriend, played by Tom Bosley (of “Happy Days” fame.). Lavin said she likes the role she’s playing: “It’s very rare these days to find a movie role playing a woman of age where she’s not being humiliated.”
Plus, she’s having fun. Lavin said she got to shoot a wedding scene that includes, for the movie’s closing credits, a Bollywood-esque conga line.
“The Back-Up Plan” is the first screenplay from Kate Angelo, who has written for TV’s “Will and Grace,” “The Bernie Mac Show,” and “Becker.” It’s being directed by Alan Poul, a producer and director for HBO series “Six Feet Under,” among other projects.

ET interview - June 03 2009
Here's the ET interview or a part of it they may show more of it tonigh in the actual show. Jen looks very happy, Alex O'loughlin is also with her and they show scenes of the film.
Jen heads back to work - May 15 2009
Jennifer Lopez looked happy to be back at work as she started filming her latest movie yesterday.
The actress, who is filming The Back-Up Plan in Pasadena, California, looked happy enough as she talked with director Alan Poul before getting dressed up for her night scene.
Jennifer, who wore a pair of wide-leg linen trousers and a baggy white top, spent the afternoon rehearsing lines before filming kicked off.
As the evening scenes started, the star showed off her legs in a short coffee-coloured frock and black strappy heels.
And she certainly seemed to be getting along well with the crew and co-star Alex O'Loughlin as she laughed her way through breaks.
The Back-Up Plan is a romantic comedy about a woman, Zoe (Jennifer), who conceives through artificial insemination, only to meet her soul mate on the same day.
'Alex O'Loughlin is promoting his guest spot on Criminal Mind which air tonight on CBS and Ew.com asked him 2 questions about Jen and The Back up plan.
You're about to start filming the movie The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez. Tell us about that one.
It's a movie about a girl who is heading toward her 40th birthday, she hasn't met The One, she really wants a baby, and so she goes and gets artificially inseminated. Right after she does this, she bumps into this guy called Stan. I play Stan. She falls in love with him. He falls in love with her. She tells him about the pregnancy after they've fallen in love and he flips out. Then it's about him coming to terms with the fact that if he loves her, he loves all of her, and working out how he's gonna deal with it. It's very funny. It's very moving. It's a terrific little film.
You've met Jennifer already, obviously. How's the chemistry?
The chemistry is fine. I think we're gonna be pals. You know when you sit in a room with someone and you kinda can't talk to them, or you sit in a room and you're easy with someone -- we're easy together. So I think it's gonna work. I think we're gonna be really good onscreen together. Her husband is wonderful. I met Marc and the kids, and they're great. They're a really lovely unit.
here's an other one it's an interview he did with TheTvaddict
Have you started shooting The Back-Up Plan?
I start shooting in about a minute!
Aside from the opportunity to work with Jennifer Lopez, what attracted you to the project?
Nothing, just J.LO… No, just joking. The film is great, it's funny, well written and I've never really done a lead role in a romantic comedy over here yet in America. Also, the director's a pal, the great Alan Poul, who has a really smart clear vision for the film. And Jennifer being attached didn't hurt.

Alan Poul in Final Negotiations to Direct 'Plan B' for CBS Films - Feb 03
Alan Poul ("Swingtown," "Big Love," "Six Feet Under") is in final negotiations to direct "Plan B" for CBS Films, it was announced today by Amy Baer, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Films, a division of the CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS). The romantic comedy, which stars Jennifer Lopez, will begin filming in May. Slated to hit theaters in January 2010, this will be CBS Films' first release.
Poul is making his feature directing debut on the film. Over his 20-year career, the prolific director-producer has received an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe and three Peabody Awards. For five seasons he was Executive Producer of HBO's Emmy-winning "Six Feet Under." Last year, he executive produced and directed the pilot of CBS's provocative 1970s-era drama "Swingtown." In 2003, Poul was nominated for both a directing Emmy and a Directors Guild Award for the "Six Feet Under" episode, "Nobody Sleeps." Poul has also directed multiple episodes of HBO's historical epic "Rome" and polygamous family drama "Big Love."
Written by Kate Angelo, "Plan B" centers on a single woman (Lopez) who turns to artificial insemination to answer her ticking clock ... only to see her back-up plan turned on its side when the man of her dreams shows up at the same time as her positive pregnancy test results. Casting for the male lead is currently underway.
"Alan's impressive body of work reflects his ability to depict relatable characters in unexpected circumstances," says Baer. "Kate's script combines laugh-out-loud physical humor with genuine emotion. We think Alan's fresh vision is the perfect match to Kate's fresh voice."
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch ("The Pursuit of Happyness") will produce through their Escape Artists banner.

Romantic comedy spec sparked bidding war
CBS Films has optioned the romantic comedy spec Plan B by TV scribe Kate Angelo.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the story is believed to center on a woman who sets out to be artificially inseminated and falls in love.
Spec sparked a bidding war that involved multiple parties. CBS Films has jumped into the post-WGA strike lit market with resolve. Last month, the nascent company paid $1 million for Dan Fogelman's untitled boomers-in-Vegas comedy pitch.
A romantic comedy centered on a woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination, (her plan B) only to meet the man of her dreams (her plan A) on the very same day.
